Editor-in-Chief of Population Journal: Yu Xiao. He is currently the Dean of the Northeast Asian Studies College of Jilin University, a PhD, professor, doctoral supervisor, and a vice president of the China Population Society. He is also the director of the Mongolian Studies Institute of Jilin University (2009), the deputy director of the China Population Aging and Economic and Social Development Research Center (2009), the vice president of the Tumen River International Cooperation Association of Jilin Province (2013), and a member of the Decision-Making Advisory Committee of the People's Government of Jilin Province (2014). In 2016, he won the title of “Special Concerned Teacher” in the “Jilin Kind-hearted Man, Most Beautiful Teacher” selection activity. He has been engaged for many years in research on regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia, population and economic development, population and resource environment in Northeast China, global climate change and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
Population Journal was founded in 1979 and is one of the earliest demographic journals in China. This national-level demographic majored publication was publicly issued at home and abroad and is now the national Chinese core journals, the core journals of Chinese humanities and social sciences, the Chinese Social Science Citation Index (CSSCI) source journal, and the RCCSE China Core Academic Journals ( Level A). In 2013, Population Journal was funded by the National Social Science Fund.

Population Journal has columns on population theory, population development, population flow, population and society, population urbanization, population aging, social security, labor employment and human resource development, population resource and environment, and international population research. Many of the articles published have been indexed and reprinted by "Xinhua Digest", "Chinese Social Science Digest", "Chinese University Liberal Arts Journal Digest" and "Renmin University of China Newspapers and Journals Copy Data". The citation rate has been ranked in the front in the national sociology and demographic journals. In 2015, Population Journal and the China Knowledge Network jointly began to publish its English version. In 2017, the comprehensive impact factor of Population Journal reached 3.123.
After years of construction and development, Population Journal has become an important academic journal in the field of demography and sociology in China. Not only has it made positive contributions in promoting the development and construction of China's population discipline, but it has also played an important role in introducing China's population science research results, promoting China's population governance policies and measures, and enhancing the international influence of China's population science. The academic level and style of Population Journal have not only been widely recognized by academic experts and practitioners, but also have been affirmed and praised by relevant communist party and national leaders.
Population Journal is a first-level journal of Jilin Province, and the editorial department of Population Journal has also been rated as "Top Ten Editorial Department" by the Institute of Scientific Research and Degree Management of Jilin Province. In 2006 and 2010, Population Journal won the title of “National Excellent Social Science Journal”, and in 2014 it was announced as “National College Excellent Social Science Journal”. From 2015 to 2017, the Population Journal won the title of “China Excellent International Journal of Impact” in a row.
