On October 26th, 2018, Northeast Asian Studies College, Jilin University and Chinese Institute, Dongseo University, Korea co-hosted the bilateral academic symposium on The Construction of Political Trust and the Promotion of Economic Cooperation in Northeast Asia in the New Period. The symposium was co-organized by Center for Northeast Asian Studies and Institute of Korean Peninsula, Jilin University. Over thirty scholars from Dongseo University, Asan Institute for Policy Studies, Dong-A University, Pusan National University, and the Institute of International Politics, Institute of World Economics, Institute of Regional Economics attended this symposium. Professor Shin Jung Seung, Director of China Institute, Dongseo University, former ROK ambassador to China and Professor Yu Xiao, Dean of Northeast Asian Studies College, Jilin University delivered opening speeches.
On the symposium, the regional economic cooperation in Northeast Asia, security issues of the Korean Peninsula and other topics were discussed deeply. The scholars exchanged views about the new economic mapping of the Korean Peninsula, the development of the Great Tumen River. This symposium was the second meeting since the two organizations of NASC, Jilin University and China Institute, Dongseo University signed agreement to hold academic conferences regularly. Both sides expressed satisfaction with this symposium and extended willing to keep and promote the regular meeting as a mechanism in the long term in the future.
